Naturopathic Medicine
Naturopathic medicine is a holistic approach to healthcare that emphasizes the body's innate ability to heal itself. Practitioners focus on treating the underlying causes of illness rather than just the symptoms, using herbal medicine, labs, nutrition, and lifestyle changes. Naturopathic medicine also encourages patient education and self-care, promoting overall wellness and prevention. By integrating modern medical knowledge with traditional healing practices, it offers a comprehensive strategy for maintaining health and treating various conditions.
The Principles
-
First, Do No Harm – Use gentle, low-risk therapies and avoid unnecessary suppression of symptoms.
-
The Healing Power of Nature – Support the body’s inherent ability to heal itself.
-
Identify and Treat the Causes – Address underlying contributors, not just symptoms.
-
Doctor as Teacher – Empower patients through education and shared decision-making.
-
Treat the Whole Person – Consider physical, mental, emotional, and environmental factors.
-
Prevention – Emphasize lifestyle, early intervention, and proactive health maintenance.
These principles guide naturopathic care to promote long-term wellness, resilience, and optimal health.

Therapeutic Order
The Therapeutic Order is a guiding framework in naturopathic medicine that prioritizes the least invasive and most natural interventions first, escalating only as needed to support health. According to the AANP, the steps are:
-
Support the body’s inherent healing abilities – Encourage self-healing through lifestyle, diet, stress management, and foundational wellness strategies.
-
Remove obstacles to cure – Address factors like toxins, infections, nutrient deficiencies, or medications that interfere with the body’s natural processes.
-
Stimulate the body’s inherent healing mechanisms – Use therapies such as acupuncture, herbal medicine, or homeopathy to activate and guide the body’s self-regulation.
-
Correct structural or mechanical dysfunction – Apply hands-on therapies, physical medicine, or rehabilitation to restore proper structure and function.
-
Prescribe pharmaceuticals or more invasive interventions when necessary – Reserve these as a last step when less invasive measures are insufficient.
This hierarchy ensures that care is safe, effective, and supportive of the body’s natural resilience, while still allowing for advanced interventions when clinically indicated.
A Custom Approach
In my practice, I take an integrated, individualized approach to wellness by combining laboratory testing, targeted nutrition, botanical medicine, and lifestyle counseling. Labs help me identify underlying imbalances and metabolic patterns, while nutrition and herbs are tailored to support specific systems and optimize function. Alongside this, counseling addresses stress, sleep, and daily habits, creating a personalized treatment plan that treats the root causes of dysfunction rather than just symptoms.
By weaving these tools together, I support patients in achieving sustainable health, balance, and resilience.
